It is the care designed to give supportive care to people in the final phase of a terminal illness and focus on comfort and quality of life..
Who pays for Hospice?
For most hospice patients, the cost of hospice care is fully covered by Medicare Hospice Benefit. Medicaid and private insurances also cover hospice.
Where can I receive hospice care services?
Patients can receive hospice care and services in their home, relative or friend’s home, nursing home, and assisted living facility.
What happens if I get better while in Hospice care?
A patient may be discharged when they show signs of improvement and is no longer terminally ill and/or in remission.
Does hospice cover equipment and supplies?
Hospice covers basic medical equipment like hospital beds, wheelchairs, and oxygen as well as items like dressing change supplies, continent supplies and medications that is related to the terminal illness.
Who qualifies for hospice care?
Patients whose physicians have given a prognosis of approximately six months or less, if their disease follows its normal progression, quality for hospice care.
How is hospice paid for?
Hospice is paid by Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance plans.
How often will a nurse visit and how long does it last?
It will vary according to the patient and family needs. Most patients are initially seen by a nurse two to three times per week, but visits may be more or less frequent based on the needs of the patient and family.
What happens if we have a problem after hours?
Nevada Caring Hearts Hospice is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. After office hours you can call us at 702-268-8393 and an ON-CALL Nurse will assist you in your hospice needs
Will the patient keep his or her primary doctor?
Hospice encourages the patient and his or her family to keep their primary physician. The nurse communicates with the primary physician on a regular basis. This keep the doctor updated on the patient’s condition and addresses any changes needed on the plan of care. The patient may choose to have the hospice medical director as their primary physician, or if the patient does not have a primary physician.
May the patient have physical therapy, occupational therapy or speech therapy?
A patient may receive therapy to the extent that it would add to the patients’ safety and quality of life.
Can we call 911?
You can call 911, but we ask you to please call Nevada Caring Hearts Hospice first for all of your urgent needs. We will facilitate any care you may need. This will ensure that your care needs can be handled in the way that you desire.
